Oil on patenated copper panel. 2016.
This is the first genuine portrait I’ve ever painted. After what was about seven years of painting figures in ‘other’ work it was quite an enjoyable and challenging experience. This portrait complements another (smaller) version of the same person from around 2009, drawing on the backdrop I painted for that in this patenated copper background. The copper support is an old etching plate, hence the black marks round the edges which I liked and decided to keep.
